Protection

Low impact recreation

• The Merrimac Preserve is open to the public for low-impact recreation such as hiking, bird watching, cross county skiing and snowshoeing. No biking, all-terrain vehicles or horses are allowed.

Buffers

• While some row crop production is still allowed at the Merrimac Preserve, all waterways and wetlands are protected by buffer strips that minimize erosion and runoff problems.

Management activities

• Preserve management activities are conducted in a manner that minimizes disturbance of the natural communites.
